Health board meeting moves to virtual

MAYVILLE — Due to the increasing cases of COVID-19, the Chautauqua County Board of Health’s previously announced in person meeting has been changed to virtual. The Board will hold their meeting at 6 p.m. today by remote access – to view the meeting on-line go to: https://www.facebook.com/myhealthycounty/

The public may participate in privilege of the floor by emailing a statement no later than 3 p.m. today to raters@chqgov.com. Emailed statements shall be read during the privilege of the floor.

SOAR meeting slated for Tuesday

There will be a SOAR Chapter 4-1 meeting on Tuesday at noon at the USW Local 2693 Union Hall on Fourth Street in Dunkirk. All eligible SOAR members are invited to attend the monthly meeting. For further information call James Bickhart at 716-366-1485.

Recreation Center to open Dec. 6

The city of Dunkirk’s Recreation Center at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds will open Monday, Dec. 6. The Recreation Center will be open for four months again this season.Toddlers up to adults can enjoy everything from open gym, to soccer clinics, to birthday parties to a walking program. The Recreation Center has something for everyone.

For adults, the AM Walk will continue on Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Walking is only $1 per day or a punch card with 14 walks for $10. Announcements will be made for future programming.

Alternative Christmas Festival set by church

An Alternative Christmas Festival is planned at the Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Ave., Fredonia. The event takes place Friday, Dec. 3 from 3 to 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 5 from noon to 2 p.m. Use the Cottage Street parking lot.

Visit the nativity display with hundreds of nativities to view. Buy fair trade gifts (food items and gift baskets) ethically sourced, artisan crafts made by empowered women in developing countries, and alternative gift contributions to a variety of non-profit organizations including Chautauqua County Rural Ministry, Heifer International, Medical Benevolence Foundation, Presbyterian Education Board of Pakistan and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.

Equal exchange gifts include coffee, oils, chocolates. Explore Christian-themed children’s books, crafts for kids or make your own fair trade gift basket. Guests are asked to wear masks. For details, call 679-1501.

Towel bingo set for Saturday

GOWANDA — Doors open at 10 a.m. at the Gowanda Moose Lodge, 201 Aldrich St. on Saturday for towel bingo starting at 11 a.m. Admission is $5. Food is available for purchase. There will be a basket raffle, a quarter raffle and 50/50 in addition to the opportunity to win towels.

Craft, gift show set for Saturday

MAYVILLE — The Huge Holiday Craft and Gift Show will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chautauqua Suites Meeting & Expo Center, 215 W. Lake Road. Many handmade crafts of all types, gifts for Christmas, bake sales, basket raffles and food will be available. Partial proceeds will go to the Blue Star Mothers.
