Trunk or Treat seeks participants
The Fredonia-Pomfret Recreation Department is hosting its fourth annual “Trunk or Treat” on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Russell Joy Park. If members of a club or organization would like to bring a decorated vehicle for this fun event, please send an email to the Recreation Director at fredrec@nestync.net no later than Sunday, Oct. 20.
Church plans rummage sale
It’s time to find great bargains at the Fall Rummage Sale by Trinity Episcopal Church Women. The sale is located in Garland Hall which is behind Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Day St., Fredonia.
The sale will happen on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
As always, this is a clean sale with all items ready to be used and enjoyed by you the new
owner. So many treasures await your discovery. Every sale brings different items but
there is always a collection of kitchen items, books, small electronics, linens, holiday items,
winter clothes, purses, decorating/craft items, bedding and who knows maybe some small furniture items and jewelry
All items are reasonably priced and all funds generated allow the women to help support
local community service projects.
Souper Suppers set for Westfield
WESTFIELD — The First Presbyterian Church, 49 S. Portage St. is holding Souper Suppers Fridays in October. Join us from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for Soup, Salad and Dessert on Oct. 11, 18 and 25. Dinner is by donation to help support the building fund.
St. Joseph’s community meal Oct. 19
GOWANDA — St. Joseph’s Community Meal is Saturday, Oct. 19. This months menu is chicken salad wrap, chips, applesauce and dessert from 4 to 6 p.m. It is eat-in only in the St. Joseph’s church basement, 26 Erie Ave.
Boat America class set for Oct. 19
The U.S. Coast Guard Dunkirk Flotilla 34 will teach the Boat America eight-hour class this month. The Boat America Class is the nationally recognized course on operating boats and personal watercraft safely.
The New York state “Brianna’s Law” will require all boat operators, regardless of age, must obtain a safe boating certificate in 2025. The USCG Auxiliary is approved by New York State for its requirement for eight hours of classroom boating safety training in order to operate power boats and personal watercraft (jet skis) on New York State waters. Students must be at least 10 years old.
Upon completion of the eight-hour class and exam, the successful student will receive a USCG Boat America course certificate and laminated wallet card.
The course will be presented on Oct. 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the VFW Post 9657, 10 Memorial Drive. A low-cost lunch will be provided by the VFW Post or you may bring your own.

City church plans Swiss steak dinner
St. John’s United Church of Christ will be holding a Swiss Steak Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Eat in or take-out available; dessert included. Enter the parking lot from Eagle Street. Price is still $13. To reserve tickets, please call 716-366-0710.
Sons of Revolution meets Saturday
STOCKTON — The Chautauqua Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will be meeting this Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Stockton Hotel. The SAR is open to all male descendants of lineal descent from the original patriots who supported or served in the American Revolution. We welcome new prospective members. We will be discussing patriot burial markers and the upcoming 200th anniversary of General Lafayette’s visit to Western New York.
