‘Annie Jr.’ set for NCCS

starting Friday

Tickets are on sale for the Northern Chautauqua Catholic School musical, “Annie Jr.” Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday in the school auditorium. Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at the NCCS office during school hours, or at the door.

Lakeshore Humane Society plans “Picture Your Pet With Santa”

The Lakeshore Humane Society’s “Picture Your Pet With Santa” fundraiser will be Saturday, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lakeshore Humane Society Adoption Center, 431 E. Chestnut St. in Dunkirk.

Pets, children, and/or family photos with Santa Claus will be taken by a photographer and available for purchase to benefit the Lakeshore Humane Society. The cost is $15 for one pose; $20 for three poses. The digital photo(s) will be sent via email. Cash, check, or credit card payments are accepted. Pets must be vaccinated, friendly and on a leash or in a carrier. Multiple pets and children are welcome. (No sick, aggressive, or exotic animals, please).

Also, come shop at the “Cats Meow” boutique in the LHS Adoption Center lobby. It is a great source for gifts!

Note that LHS Saturday afternoon Open Adoption Hours will not be held this day, but usual Open Adoption Hours will be held the following Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 23 from noon to 3 p.m. Those interested in adopting a dog or cat can also make an appointment outside of these times by leaving a message at 716-672-1991 and pressing “1” for dogs or “2” for cats.

Blood drive planned Nov. 21

Dunkirk High School will be holding a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. All blood donated stays in Western New York so donors know they are saving lives in their own community! All donors at that drive will get $5 at Moe’s Southwest Grill. They can schedule at connectlifegiveblood.org or calling 716-529-4270.

Brocton-Portland

Seniors hold meeting

Brocton-Portland Seniors met Oct. 29 with Margaret Jagoda, president, opening the meeting with 61 members present.

Anita Calcaterra gave a prayer of thanks and Doug Chatley led the Pledge of Allegiance. The Halloween contest had three judges: Mayor Craig Miller, Dave Hazelton and Steve Smith, picking the winners from four categories. Winners were Becky Addington, Brenda Drummond, Judy Travis, Maureen Davis, Nancy Hayden, Calcaterra, Rose and Laurel Giambra.

Committee for the event was Margaret Jagoda, Kathy Peters, Barb Crandall, Linda Riley and Bev Strauser.

Chili was the luncheon dish of the day enjoyed by all. Ruth Neal read the secretary’s report approved by Rita Bennett and Linda Riley. Barbara Delcamp read her treasury report approved by Anita Calcaterra and Shane West.

Ahira Hall Library is having author Mindy Wendell on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. It is an historical novel inspired by the local Perrysburg Hospital. Call Robin Carr 716-230-4081 for trip information.

Nominating committee members for election in November are Tom DeJoe, Carr, Riley and Mary Matteson. Birthdays celebrated were Clara Wilder, Judy Travis, Lynn DiPalma, Chuck Cichon, Candy Philbrick and new member Deborah Gillis.

Table centerpieces of Ghosts by Kathy Peters, were won by nine happy folks. There were 10 raffle winners. The door prizes were won by George Burnett and Elaine Frederickson.

The next meeting is Nov. 26 and is catered. Sign-up is required by Nov. 18. Ten members will bring dessert. Committee is Linda Riley, Nancy Hayden, Denise Griffin and Ruth Neal. Dues for 2025 will begin at this meeting.
