Food drive set for weekend

The original Thanksgiving Day Food drive to benefit Chautauqua County Rural Ministry will be hosted by the Town of Pomfret. The drive will be Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. at Pomfret Town Hall at 9 Day St., Fredonia.

This has always been a wonderful community event where whatever you can give, even homegrown fruit, vegetables and potatoes are welcomed in addition to frozen turkeys and complimentary Thanksgiving meal themed foods.

“We have seen an increase in need and will begin our Thanksgiving Day food applications in early November. Any assistance that can be provided by this drive is greatly appreciated and will help us with our Thanksgiving Day food boxes, that are given out through the application process and family size” said Bridget Majka, Rural Ministry executive director.

Fire delays traffic in region

For a second day, commuters on the state Thruway were impacted by an incident. Eastbound traffic from Exit 60 to 59 was slow due to a vehicle fire at mile marker 480 near Westfield at Walker Road. Some traffic was routed off the Thruway, which impacted area residents during the afternoon Tuesday.

Community members are invited to participate in conversations to help guide the improvement of the library’s services for those who may not be able to access the library. Discussions will be online by Zoom on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.

Advance registration is appreciated and necessary to receive the link for online participation. Please register by calling the library at 716-962-5885, by email to info@sinclairvillelibrary.org, or through the library’s website event and program registration form.

To make reading materials accessible for those with visual disabilities, the library has added more Large Print books that were purchased through this grant funding. A list of new materials is available on the library’s website at www.sinclairvillelibrary.org. Just go to the “Support Your Library” tab and scroll down to see lists of new items purchased through grants the library has received. These materials are available to all patrons of the libraries within our combined Chautauqua-Cattaraugus library system.

This program is made possible through an engagement grant from the American Library Association. Libraries Transforming Communities: Focus on Small and Rural Libraries is an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) in collaboration with the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL).
