Leaf collection to begin in city

The city of Dunkirk Department of Public Works announces that a city sweep of bagged, barreled and loose leaves will start on Monday in District A. Once the first sweep of District A is complete, crews will then move to District B. District C and District D will follow in order at a weather permitting pace.

When placing leaves at the curb, residents are asked to keep them clear of receivers and utility poles and out of the street. Please do not mix branches with leaves.

City of Dunkirk residents may also drop leaves and brush off at the Public Works facility on Lucas Avenue. Brush Facility Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. When dumping, note the separate pile for leaves, pine and other woods. Please do not mix.

Rec Department offers gratitude for year

The Fredonia-Pomfret Recreation Department reports it has completed a successful 2024 season.

The Recreation Department would like to thank the following local businesses and/or individuals who supported the Summer 2024 Field Day: Blasdell Pizza Dunkirk, Wells Enterprises, Harvest View Greenhouses, House of Birria, Freds Restaurant, Dan and Deb Sullivan, Annemarie Johnston, and Erlyssa LeBeau. Each of their generous donations helped to create a memorable field day for our community.

The department would also like to extend gratitude to the following businesses for their donations to the 2024 Trunk or Treat: Fredonia Walmart, Dunkirk-Fredonia Tops, and Dunkin’ Donuts.

Bills Boosters plan Sunday game gathering

The Southern Tier Bills Booster Club will watch the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills game on Sunday at the First Ward Falcon Club in Dunkirk. Snacks will be provided and members may bring a food item to pass but it is not required.Game time is 4:25 p.m.

VFW Auxiliary holds meeting

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan VFW Auxiliary met at the post on Monday, Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. It was reported that on Nov. 9 some of the members distributed “Buddy” Poppies at Tops Market. It was a successful effort in honor of Veterans’ Day. Program chairs reported on their individual efforts. Several donation requests were considered and voted on. There is a lottery basket raffle and bake sale at the Post on Dec. 6 starting at 4 p.m. All members are encouraged to bake. The next meeting will be Dec. 10 for the Christmas party. This will be at the Colony at 6 p.m. Members attending are asked to bring a toy for the Christmas toy drive and a gift, not to exceed $15 for the gift exchange.
