Pearl Harbor remembrance planned

SUNSET BAY — Residents are invited to join the VFW Post 6472 Silver Creek NY for a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the Americans who lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. The ceremony will take place at The Sunset Bay State Marina Park at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is held annually on Dec. 7 commemorating the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, by the Japanese navy pushing the United States into World War II. Some 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 were injured with the attack sinking four U.S. battleships, damaging 4 others and damaging 3 cruisers, three destroyers and destroying 188 aircraft and damaging 159 aircraft

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day was established by the U.S. Congress in 1994 to honor and remember the individuals who were killed or injured during the attack on Pearl Harbor. The day also serves as a reminder of the determination and resilience of the American people during challenging times. Dec. 7, 1941, is a date forever etched in American history and memory, and this observance ensures that the sacrifices and heroism of that day are never forgotten.

Handicapped parking is located between the two buildings and directly behind the second building.

The theme for December is Presence. The discussion will be “It’s beginning to look a lot like – Chrismahanukwanzakah,” with Rev. Ron Skowronski.

In this often humorous, sometimes serious reflection on the holidays, the minister will take us on a guided tour of some of the celebrations of the season. By the end of this reflection, you may want to kiss the ground (or whatever you choose) and thank Goodness that you identify as a Unitarian Universalist!

There will be a potluck lunch. If you are able, bring a dish to share. If you bring food, please list the ingredients for anyone with dietary concerns. No time to prepare anything? There is always plenty so just come and eat.
