Library plans final Family Night for year
SINCLAIRVILLE — The library will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday in observance of the Christmas Holiday. The Sinclairville Public Library will reopen on Friday at 10 a.m..
Miss Jessica is hosting one final Family Night on Monday, Dec. 30 from 6 to 7 pm. Come and join in some “Crafting Fun.” Help Miss Jessica clean out her craft kit supply. She has everything from Jellyfish to Unicorns. For all ages (parent/caregiver must stay with child). All materials provided.
The library will also be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Trinity United Church of Christ free community meal
GOWANDA — The Trinity United Church, at Erie Avenue and Park Street, will host a take-out only free community meal at the Park Street entrance on Saturday, Jan.11 from 4 to 6 p.m. or gone. The menu is soup, salad, roll and cookies. Free will donations are appreciated but not necessary. Drive East Main to Railroad Avenue and then down Park Street, following the signs, or walk up. Everyone is welcome. The next meal is Feb. 8.
Legion Auxiliary meets in Cassadaga
CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held its regular monthly meeting Dec. 10.
Correspondence was read with thank yous from the Terry Buckwald committee, and from the Cassadaga Food Pantry for our donations.
Paula Pattison reported she continues to send get well and sympathy cards as needed. Unit 1280 membership is currently at 64% paid for the year; dues are $30 and can be paid by mail at 228 Maple Ave., Cassadaga 14718, or they can be paid at the Post. Unit member Lauren Sharp delivered a collection box of items and monetary donations to the Blue Star Mothers for their holiday packages being sent to the Troops stationed overseas; thank you to everyone that contributed to this worthy cause!
The Post has a Christmas Eve gathering planned, a New Year’s Eve “ball drop” party, and is working with the Cassadaga village for events to sponsor during the Winterfest in February.
Members present voted to donate money to the Blue Star Mothers to help with shipping costs.
The next Unit meeting will be Tuesday Jan. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Legion Post. All members are encouraged to attend, to help our mission to help our veterans and community.
Club Associates meet for month
The Northern Chautauqua County Club Associates held its regular monthly meeting at the Dunkirk Elks Club. Bob Dando welcomed the group. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence for deceased members.
All clubs were present, and one trustee was excused. Secretary Jim Pryll read the minutes of the previous meeting, and treasurer, Tom Halicki, gave the financial report.
Special guest was state Sen. George Borrello, who praised his wife’s work in the family business, and her efforts with the United Way and other charitable organizations.
Kelly Borrello, guest speaker, spoke about the merger that formed the United Way of Chautauqua County, and how the need still exists for the many organizations helping the less fortunate in both the north and south county. She spoke of employee donations, and the effort to reach non-workers, and how all contributions stay in our county. She was accompanied by Dan Siracuse of the organization. The Associates made a donation.
In old business, each member club was given a copy of the latest available SLA Licensee Handbook, and were told to have their board members read its contents.
Elections were held for 2025 officers of the Association, and Brian Schneider was named the new president, replacing Joe Rozen, who held the position for 16 years. Patrick Begier will serve as vice president, Tom Halicki, treasurer, Pryll, secretary, and Dolores Mauer, Shane Boyle, and Edgar “Pinky” Ziegler will serve as trustees.
The installation banquet will be at the Kosciuszko Polish Home on Saturday, Jan. 25. All clubs and guests will be receiving informational letters shortly.
