Museum calls for items related to Italian-American History
The Darwin R. Barker Museum is requesting items related to the history of Italian-Americans in Fredonia and Pomfret. Italian immigrants have been a significant part of local history since they first started arriving in the 1880s – eventually making up over one-fifth of the village population-but the museum’s collection does not yet reflect that history. To help us preserve and share this part of Fredonia’s history, please bring items to the Barker Museum at 7 Day St on Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m., Friday or Saturday 1 to 5 p.m.
Can, bottle drive set for Saturday
The Blessed Mary Angela Holy Name Society will sponsor a can and bottle drive on Saturday at the Parish Social Center at 324 Townsend St., Dunkirk, from 9 a.m. to noon. Drive up to the front door, and items will be unloaded for you.
The Holy Name Society will use the funds to help with installing new LED lighting in the Old St. Hyacinth School on Lake Shore Drive East. The school is currently being used for religious activities and will become the Catholic religious education center for Our Lord’s Vineyard utilizing the entire building, including the gymnasium for family activities when Blessed Mary Angela closes the church of St. Hedwig in June.
Union Relief Association praises donations
WESTFIELD — The Union Relief Association of Westfield would like to give a huge thank you to all the members of the community who supported the 2024 Christmas Project and Charity Ball.
Thanks to continued generosity, Union Relief Association was able to provide food, household items, winter boots, coats, clothing and gifts to 49 families, including 112 children in need in our community. We were also able to provide care packages filled with food and household items to 55 local senior citizens.
On December 7, the group held its 101st Annual Charity Ball. Patrons enjoyed live music by the Porcelain Busdrivers and danced the night away alongside friends and fellow community members. All while supporting a very worthy cause.
“Thank you to everyone who attended the Charity Ball, donated to the Christmas Project or volunteered your time! We are grateful that you continue to support our organization and help us to give back to those in need within our community,” the organization said. “We couldn’t do it without you and you are so appreciated!”
