Ceremony planned

On Sunday, American Legion Post 62 in Dunkirk, will conduct the Four Chaplains Ceremony commemorating the sinking of an American troop ship during World War II.
Feb. 2 marks the 82nd anniversary of the sinking of the United States Army Transport Dorchester and the selfless acts of four Army Chaplains from all denominations. Reverend George Fox (Methodist), Rabbi Alexander Goode (Jewish), the Rev. Clark Poling (Dutch Reformed), and Father John Washington (Roman Catholic) lost their lives on this day after giving their life vests to others in need.
The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. at the Post 62, 211 Central Ave., Dunkirk, and is open to members and accompanied guests.
