Legion Auxiliary meets today

The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 will hold its monthly meeting today at 6:30 p.m. in the Legion hall. All unit members are encouraged to attend.

Valentines workshop

set for Friday

The Darwin R. Barker Library & Museum will host a Victorian Valentines workshop on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. The public is invited to make Victorian-inspired Valentine’s Day cards for the holiday. This event is free and all ages are welcome. Materials provided. Sweethearts not included.

United Seniors meet again in March

The United Senior Citizens met Dec. 9 at the Falcon Club, 341 Lake Shore Drive East in Dunkirk for its final 2024 meeting. The group enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by Allison Kozlowski and welcomed two new guests. Before lunch, members enjoyed saying grace together led by President Evonne Hennebery, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing God Bless America.

Birthday greetings were offered to Silvana Bajdas and Delores Fairbanks and after lunch membership enjoyed playing Bingo together called by Rosemary Mancuso and Lucy Saeli.

United Senior Citizens is one of many “senior citizen” organizations in the Chautauqua County area. Senior groups exist in order that any senior 55 and older, whether single, widowed or divorced can meet, greet and eat with other seniors for a few hours to enjoy lunch, entertainment and/or Bingo among other games, planned events and excursions. Dues usually are $5 per group per year depending on which group you join. Geographically speaking, there is the Brocton Portland Seniors in Brocton; Dunkirk Seniors, Dunkirk; Mayville Seniors that meet at the VFW in Mayville; Silver Creek Seniors, Silver Creek and the United Seniors that meet the second Monday of the month (excluding January and February) at the Falcon Club in Dunkirk.

The new year for the United Senior Citizens will kick off March 10. The catered meal will consist of stuffed chicken, Italian sausage with peppers and onions, rice pilaf, glazed carrots and tossed salad.

Before Bingo, there will be a presentation by Venn Blakely from Complete Group Travel on an upcoming April 1 trip: “Cabin Fever Reliever” making stops at the famous Cuba Cheese Shoppe, Cuba; Cartwright’s Maple Tree Inn for all you can eat buckwheat pancakes, Short Tract and the Village of Angelica’s shops and boutiques where you will experience this quaint village rated one of top 10 places to visit in New York state. Cost is $80 for this winter reprieve. Reservations and payment due March 15. Other excursions being planned are day trips to Finger Lakes, D-Day in Conneaut, Ohio; African Lion Safari in Cambridge Ont., (passport or Real ID needed) and a Christmas New York City trip in December.

United Senior members can send a $15 lunch reservation check made out to United Senior Citizens to: Evonne Hennebery, PO Box 706, Dunkirk, NY 14048 by Feb. 28.
