Spring bake sale, dinner Saturday
The Blessed Mary Angela Fatima and Holy Name societies will have their annual Spring Bake Sale and Dinner on Saturday at the St. Hyacinth Lyceum on Pangolin Street in Dunkirk.
The bake sale will feature homemade baked goods just in time for Easter. The dinner will include chicken and biscuits with mashed potatoes.
Eat in or take out! Tickets are available after weekend masses and at Li’l Gingers Deli on Central Avenue, Big Rick’s One Stop on Lake Shore Drive East or the Parish office on Central Avenue in the Holy Trinity Complex. Proceeds will be used to move the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine on Pangolin Street to St Hyacinth’s Cemetery.
Donation for the dinner is $15 or two for $25.
Gallop for Growth set for May 3
SHERIDAN — Together We Bloom, a local non-profit located in Silver Creek, is hosting its first Kentucky Derby fundraising event on May 3 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Sheridan VFW. This fundraiser will help Together We Bloom to offer free mental health programming to those in Chautauqua County and the surrounding areas.
Tickets for this event are $40 each and includes the following: one free well drink/beer, one dinner voucher, one betting chip, a Gallop for Growth event cup, and a live screening of the 2025 Kentucky Derby on the big screen. There will also be games, contests, a basket raffle, prizes, and entry for a large door prize!
Over the past year, Together We Bloom has had the privilege of running several successful programs, including a postpartum mental health support group for new mothers (with childcare provided), a men’s group using mindfulness through the art of fly tying (for fly fishing), a children’s group blending art, yoga, and emotional awareness, a teen girls’ empowerment group fostering positive self-esteem, and much more. These programs not only provide valuable mental health resources, but they also build positive community connections that help individuals feel seen, supported, and understood. Together We Bloom has also provided scholarships for clinicians in the area to get perinatal mental health training.

Lakeshore Humane Society monthly General Membership meeting

Sewer District board meets
April 15
The administrative board of the Portland-Pomfret-Dunkirk Sewer District will hold a meeting Tuesday, April 15 at Shorewood Country Club, 4958 West Lake Road, Dunkirk at 3 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.
Chicken and biscuit dinner is Sunday
FORESTVILLE — Forestville Chapter Order of the Eastern Star is having a chicken and biscuit dinner Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Forestville Masonic Lodge on Main Street. Cost is $13. Eat in or take out.
‘Agnes of God’ to be performed at Center

Author plans area book signings
Danar Burkard, author of the newly released young adult novel “Coasters Rule” will be presenting and signing books at Darwin R. Barker Library, 7 Day St. in Fredonia on Saturday at noon.
He will also be celebrating Independent Bookstore Day on April 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Next Chapter Bookstore, 12 Park Place in Fredonia.
“Coasters Rule” is an Amazon Best Seller and has been endorsed by Golden Globe-winning actress Mariel Hemingway and USA TODAY Bestselling Author J.J. Trap team aims for recycling fundraiser record
GOWANDA — One of the community’s most-anticipated fundraising efforts is returning in observance of Earth Month.
Gowanda High School’s Trap Team is hosting its annual Bottle & Can Drive on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the front loop of Gowanda Middle School on Prospect Street. All are invited to drop off their 5-cent recyclable cans and bottles in support of the team.
The trap team, which competes in the fall and spring, has collected more than 60,000 refundables at previous drives and is hoping to surpass prior totals. All proceeds help fund trap team activities.
