PORTLAND — The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Fire Investigation Team responded to 8644 First St. to determine the cause and origin of a garage fire before 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

The fire was determined to have originated within a plastic garbage can due to the combustion of several chemically soaked rags. No injuries were reported but all contents within the garage were lost.

Responding agencies included: Portland Fire Department, Chautauqa County Emergency Services, Brocton Fire Department and Westfield Fire Department.
