Garage destroyed, homes damaged in city fire
Two structures were damaged and another was destroyed in a Central Avenue fire that displaced eight residents early Wednesday in the city of Dunkirk.
Dunkirk Fire Department reported it responded to the structure fire at 927 Central Ave. at 2:34 a.m. Upon arrival crews found a garage fully involved with fire with the blaze spreading to 925 and 927 Central Ave. Both of those residences were occupied single family homes.
Occupants of both addresses were alerted by smoke alarms and safely evacuated. Several hose lines were used to attack the fires in all three structures.
The garage and a car in the garage at 927 Central were destroyed. Damage was extensive to the attic area of 927 Central and there was moderate damage primarily to the exterior of 925 Central.
East Dunkirk Firefighters and County ambulance 72 assisted at the scene. There were no injuries.
The eight displaced by the fire are being assisted by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
