Missing child, fugitive mother found in Stockton

Adrienne Marean

A missing child from West Virginia was found safe Thursday in the town of Stockton, the U.S. Marshal’s Service said.

A multi-state effort had sought recovery of the child — missing from Bridgeport, W.Va. — along with the child’s wanted mother, Adrienne Marean. The woman was previously said to have been spotted in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area.

On Thursday, Marean was taken into custody and the child safely recovered in Stockton, though no specific location was announced.

Marean was charged March 7 by the Bridgeport Police Department for allegedly violating a Harrison County Family Court Order. The 35-year-old woman had been ordered to transfer custody of the child in February but was believed to have fled.

A warrant for her arrest on a concealment of a child charge was issued.

Bridgeport police previously requested assistance in the case from the U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force in locating Marean and the missing child.

An investigation led authorities to believe Marean was residing in Western New York, though her connection to the area has not been disclosed.

“Our continued partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service has proven to be pivotal in locating missing children and our most dangerous fugitives,”said interim Bridgeport Police Chief Mark Rogers.

“This case led investigators to numerous states and even into Canada,”said acting U.S. Marshal Terry Moore.”

Assisting in the recovery Thursday were members of the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, New York State Police and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
