Fredonia break-in attempt leads to arrest
An alleged break-in attempt in Fredonia Tuesday morning led to an arrest.
According to a press release from the Fredonia Police Department, they received a 911 call describing a man attempting to break into a residence through a rear door on Lakeview Avenue. The resident provided police with a description of the man and his direction of travel.
The Fredonia police, with the assistance of the Dunkirk Police Department and SUNY Fredonia police, set up a perimeter of the neighborhood between Lakeview Avenue and Eagle Street. A Fredonia officer observed a male matching the suspect’s description running in the contained area.
The Chautauqua County K9 unit was requested to assist with the search. County K9 units broke from training exercises to assist. A short time, later the K9 units located the suspect within the contained area.
Jeremy Welch, 47, homeless, was charged with attempted burglary, possession of burglar tools, and criminal mischief.
