Man charged after accident, domestic incident in Westfield

WESTFIELD — A man is facing numerous charges following a domestic incident where he also allegedly left the scene of an accident.

In a news release issued Wednesday by the Westfield Police Department, officers say Robert W. Strang III, 53, was facing these charges: second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree falsely reporting an incident, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, speed not reasonable and prudent, an unregistered motor vehicle, moving from lane unsafely, following too close, improper and unsafe turn, failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to remove debris from the road.

At 1:57 a.m. Sept. 13, the department responded to 34 Washington St. for a reported domestic incident. Upon arrival, all individuals were highly uncooperative with police. Strang called 911 emergency services and reported he was allegedly attacked by a female on the scene and that she backed her vehicle into his causing damage.

Through an investigation, it was discovered that Strang allegedly falsely reported this incident to 911 and he was involved in a domestic incident with a female at the location. Police say the female fled the residence in her vehicle when Strang pursued her and allegedly rammed his SUV into her fleeing vehicle multiple times at Clinton and Franklin streets.

Westfield Police issued a warrant on Sunday for the arrest for Strang, who was taken into custody and transported to Chautauqua County Jail.

Westfield Police were assisted by the county Sheriff’s Department.
