Missing woman in Hungary has ties to Fredonia
A woman with ties to Fredonia is missing in Hungary.
According to social media postings and a GoFundMe campaign, Mackenzie Michalski, a 31-year-old nurse practitioner, was in Budapest while on vacation. She previously worked at Kaleida Health in Buffalo.
According to a Facebook post shared by her friends, Michalski was last seen at Barack & Szilva restaurant in the Jewish Quarter of Budapest at 10 p.m. Monday, the Daily News Hungary reported. Her friends said they received some photos from her shortly after that. The pictures were taken at Szimpla Kert, a Budapest ruin pub.
Bors, a Hungarian tabloid, reported her friend traveled home and realized that Michalski was missing after the owner of the Airbnb called because she left her belongings in the apartment.
A GoFundMe post notes, “(Mackenzie) is the light to our world–a heart of gold and a human worth more than words could describe. Kenzie is missing in Budapest (Hungary), which is near Ukraine. She is likely in danger. We need Buffalo and the world to contribute financially to finding her. Every single penny will go to finding her. The best investigators are expensive. The community is rallying behind her, and we need you to chip in anything possible.”
Through Thursday afternoon, more than $11,400 was raised.

Michalski had been residing in Portland, Ore., and is listed as an employee of Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in the neurocritical care unit.
