Cassadaga hit with flooding from lake

CASSADAGA — Rising water levels on Cassadaga Lake have been a concern for residents in recent months. This winter, it is clear those concerns were warranted.

The village of Cassadaga is dealing with flooding issues at several properties around Cassadaga Lake. Among several causes include the thawing of snow and excessive rainfall in recent weeks.

Cassadaga resident Kim Collins, a founding member of the Cassadaga Community and Business Alliance, shared photos of the aftermath earlier this week. Collins stated, “Outside of the fact that properties are being destroyed, and shorelines are being eroded, the big concern at this point is all of the septic systems overflowing into our lakes.”

In late November, Bob Reuther spoke during public comments at a Village Board meeting regarding the levels of the lake. According to the official minutes of the meeting, discussion with the Board was held regarding beaver removal or dredging as potential solutions, but neither option was viewed as a permanent or cost effective solution.

Starting at $2.99/week.
