Dunkirk man sentenced for having weapon

Items confiscated on the day of the arrest of Jesus Aponte-Rosario

Jesus Aponte-Rosario, 35, of Dunkirk, was sentenced to seven years in state prison with five years post-release supervision as a violent predicate felon this week, the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s office reported.

Aponte-Rosario pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in January.

In May, he was charged after investigators said they seized 21.47 grams of cocaine, a quantity of fentanyl and controlled prescription pills, two 9mm handguns, two large capacity magazines, scales and packaging material for the sale and distribution of narcotics and $778 in currency.

At the time, he was also charged with being a fugitive from Justice as he had a felony warrant from Cape May County. N.J., when narcotics investigators from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and Dunkirk Police Department executed a search warrant at 3711 Route 5, Lot 24 last spring.

“The DA (Jason Schmidt) would like to thank the Dunkirk Police Department and the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force for their hard work on this case,” the office reported.

Starting at $2.99/week.
