Michael Mansfield is stepping away from his role as Dunkirk City School District superintendent.

The district announced Monday morning that Mansfield will no longer be the superintendent as of July 1. He will become the district’s full-time business administrator. Mansfield currently handles both superintendent and business administrator duties.

The Dunkirk Board of Education will conduct an internal search for the next superintendent. “Confident in the district’s talented and qualified leadership team, the board believes an internal candidate will best maintain the positive momentum and progress achieved under Mr. Mansfield’s leadership,” the school district’s press release stated.

“Throughout his tenure, Mr. Mansfield has guided our district through the COVID-19 pandemic, a comprehensive district reorganization, and the planning and launch of an $83 million capital project,” Board of Education President Kenneth Kozlowski said. “Under his leadership, we have also introduced promising academic programs, navigated rising district expenses, and strengthen our long-term financial planning.”
