City man facing weapon, drug charges

A Dunkirk man with a loaded weapon is facing numerous charges after an incident Tuesday evening in the city.
Around 8:20 p.m., Dunkirk police officers responded to a business in the area of Lake Shore Drive East and Central Avenue for a reported person with a weapon. It was then relayed to officers that a subject displayed a handgun in a threatening manner while at the business and then fled the area. Officers quickly obtained a description of the suspect and vehicle involved and began checking the surrounding area.
A short time later the subject and vehicle were located and he was taken into custody and identified as Nathan L. Rivera, 23.
Further investigation into the incident led to the recovery of the firearm allegedly used in the incident along with a substantial amount of narcotics. The firearm, a 9mm Taurus pistol, was illegally possessed by Rivera and was loaded at the time it was recovered. Approximately 20.3 grams of Fentanyl, packaged in a manner consistent with street level narcotics sales, in addition to packaging materials, scales, and cash were located and seized as well.
Rivera was transported to city police headquarters where he was processed and held on charges of felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and second-degree menacing. Rivera was later arraigned and remanded to county jail on $3,000 bail. Officers were assisted by the Dunkirk Police Detective Bureau and the Dunkirk Police K9 Unit.
