OLEAN — A town resident is being charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals after a dog was found shot on and abandoned in the woods on Wayman Branch Road.

Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies reported early Saturday that James Crawford, 49, of 1958 Wayman Branch Road was charged March 16 in the incident. He will be in court at a later date.

Deputies also noted that with the help of Portville police, animal control, Haskell Valley Veterinary Clinic and the Cattaraugus County SPCA, the dog has survived the shooting and is recovering well.
