Christmas on Central lights up city
The city of Dunkirk hosted a Christmas on Central Small Business Saturday event last month in downtown Dunkirk.
It featured its annual pop-up shopping and Christmas tree lighting ceremony. More than 60 vendors were present on Central Avenue which also spotlighted locally-owned businesses.
A special thank you to the following venues and owners for their support: P*Dubs Pizza, Wings and Things, Central Station Restaurant, Kay’s Kreationz, Artic Bites, Blazing Bags, and Allan Steinberg. Thousands of people who attended were able to experience the Christmas spirit through shopping, Laff “N” Lyon Ranch horse-drawn wagon rides down Central Avenue, Vince the Tree Guy chainsaw wood carving demonstration along with Santa and Mrs. Claus whom made an appearance to the delight of children in attendance.
The event concluded with City of Dunkirk’s annual tree lighting ceremony presented by Mayor Wilfred Rosas with complimentary gift card drawings organized by Carol Oliveira.
Participants who won prizes donated by each vendor and were notified via phone are asked to pick up their item by the end of this week at the Youth and Recreation Office in the Stearns Building by City Hall.
The event was a success with thanks to the following supporters: City of Dunkirk Festivals and Special Events Department, City of Dunkirk Public Works, city staff members, craft vendors, and especially the local businesses on Central Avenue.
Next year’s event will take place in downtown Dunkirk on Saturday, Nov. 25. Interested participants are asked to contact Ryan Hall, Festivals/Special Events Director, at (716) 366-9886 or rhall@cityofdunkirk.com.
