Sipos appointed to post for 19th year
CASSADAGA — Cassadaga Village Historian John Sipos was recently appointed for the 19th year during the Village board meeting. Sipos has served for 18 consecutive years being appointed in 2005.
Among some of his many duties as the historian, are to keep records of the village including research, sharing research and maintaining records for future use. During the village board meeting, Sipos presented his annual notebook of records for 2022 to Mayor William Dorman seated. Also seated is Village clerk and treasurer Roxanne Astry.
Sipos also showed one of his many notebooks of historical information dating back more than 200 years. The village of Cassadaga was formed in 1809, and incorporated in 1921. Keeping records and doing research is a major part of the position, Sipos said.
Sipos is a member of the Government Appointed Historians of New York State, the Chautauqua County Historical Society, The Valley Historical Society which serves the Cassadaga Valley area, and the Chautauqua County Genealogical Society.
