New charge announced for local doctor

Oludotun O. Adegoke

A misdemeanor charge was announced against a local doctor accused of having a sexual relationship with a patient.

Lakewood resident Oludotun O. Adegoke was picked up Wednesday on an arrest warrant for third-degree sexual abuse; last week, the 36-year-old doctor affiliated with Jamestown’s hospital was taken into custody on a felony third-degree rape charge.

In a news release, the Jamestown Police Department said the arrest warrant issued by Jamestown City Court was the result of an “ongoing sexual abuse investigation.”

JPD, with the assistance of the Lakewood-Busti Police Department, took Adegoke into custody at his residence in Lakewood. He was transported to Jamestown City Jail and held for arraignment in court.

According to the felony complaint for the rape charge, Adegoke “did intentionally and knowingly engage in sexual intercourse with the victim. … The victim was incapable of consent due to being the patient of the defendant who was acting as (the victim’s) health care provider at the time of the incident.”

Jamestown police confirmed that the misdemeanor charge is for a new victim.

For the rape charge, police allege the crime occurred March 14 at 15 S. Main St. in Jamestown, listed as Great Lakes Physician Practice where Adegoke practices.

A person who answered the phone Monday at Great Lakes Physician Practice referred questions on Adegoke to a UPMC spokeswoman. Adegoke had been affiliated with UPMC, though by Monday his name was removed from the hospital’s website.

In a brief statement to The Post-Journal regarding the doctor, UPMC said, “This individual does not have clinical assignments and is not currently seeing patients at UPMC. Since this is an open law enforcement investigation, please contact the Jamestown Police Department for additional information.”

Adegoke is being represented by attorney Andrew Brautigam, who declined to comment on behalf of his client when reached Tuesday.

Jamestown police said the investigation was ongoing; anyone with any information is asked to call the department at 716-338-0029 or the Anonymous Tip Line at 716- 483-TIPS (8477).
