The International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend commemorates all the historic lighthouses and lightships around the world that guide sailors across their voyages. This event is open to the public at the Barcelona Lighthouse and everyone is welcome to visit this historic site. The NCARC will have a field station set up at the Barcelona Lighthouse to contact other lighthouses around the world by ham radio.
Amateur radio remains one of the best ways for people, young and old, to learn about electronics, physics, and meteorology. Throughout history this hobby was often the spark for many wonderful inventions. Anyone may become a licensed Amateur Radio operator. There are over 800,000 licensed operators in the United States, known as HAMS.
The NCARC owns and operates three amateur radio repeaters in Northern Chautauqua County. The club meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Fredonia Technology Incubator Building (2nd Floor Video Conference Rm.), 214 Central Ave. Everyone interested in radio is welcome to attend.
