Man accused of molesting children appears in court

MAYVILLE – A Jamestown man who is accused of molesting two children appeared in court Thursday.

A discovery conference was held for 37-year-old Michael Lamb in county court. District Attorney Jason Schmidt and Assistant District Attorney Amber Payne are the lead prosecutors, while Lamb is being represented by the Public Defender’s Office.

Schmidt said after the indictment was unsealed, they have to turn over the evidence they plan to use for a trial, which is what the discovery conference is for. “Once we satisfy our obligations, then we are technically ready for a trial,” he said.

After the Thursday’s court appearance, Lamb went back to the county jail. County Court Judge David Foley previously set bail for $50,000 cash/$100,000 bond. Schmidt said he wished bail was higher, but that’s due in part to changes in state legislation’s bail reform.

The crimes described in the indictment are alleged to have been committed between February 2021 and January 2023 in Jamestown against two children under 17 years of age.

Lamb was arraigned July 17 on four counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, each a class A-II violent felony; five counts of first-degree rape, each a class B violent felony; one count of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, a class B felony; and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, each a class A misdemeanor.

Schmidt and Payne said they are not permitted to disclose if the children are related or knew each other.

The court scheduled a return on motions, which will be the next step in the case, for Oct. 11.

Starting at $2.99/week.
