Wintry road hazards stop thruway traffic
Motorists heading west on the New York state Thruway were forced to Friday exit at Dunkirk-Fredonia due to an accident that put traffic at a standstill. According to the state Thruway Authority, all westbound lanes were blocked between Brigham and Temple roads due to the accident that occurred around 12:15 p.m. Friday. At least one person was complaining of a facial injury. Fredonia Fire Department said the pile-up involved 14 vehicles. Farther west, restrictions were also in place. PennDOT urged motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways: Interstate 86 from the beginning to the New York state line and Interstate 90 from the Ohio state line to the New York state line.
