Thruway fire slows traffic
Firefighters and rescue crews were at the scene of a tractor-trailer fire on the eastbound lanes of the New York State Thruway near the Dunkirk-Fredonia exit. State Thruway officials noted on its web site one eastbound lane was closed due to the blaze at mile marker 469. These photos were taken near Brigham Road. The call came in around 9:35 a.m. Thursday and the blaze was under control by 10 a.m. One photo from the scene by Dan Kohler indicated the vehicle was transporting watermelon. East Town of Dunkirk and Fredonia Fire Department responded to the call.
