Nurse leadership promotion announced at Brooks-TLC
Brooks-TLC Hospital System has announced the promotion of Tammy Mekus, BSN, RN, from case management/utilization review coordinator to director of clinical effectiveness.Mekus joined Brooks-TLC in 2015 as a registered nurse from her role as an assistant vice president in the local banking industry.
“As a previous Carol A. Kozlowski Nurse of Distinction Award, Tammy has consistently demonstrated her commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centered care,” said Julie Morton, MS, BSN, RN, chief nursing and operations officer, Brooks-TLC Hospital System. “Since 2022, she has been a key leader in the Case Management Department. Under her guidance, the Department has made significant strides in improving operation efficiency, reducing length of stay, increasing patient satisfaction scores and minimizing regulatory risks.”
In her new role, Mekus will lead the efforts to enhance the quality and safety of patient care throughout the organization by ensuring adherence to evidence-based guidelines, policies and regulatory requirements. She will focus on integrating clinical, financial and operational data to improve clinical outcomes, reduce clinical variation and ensure compliance with standards.
She is responsible for oversight of the following departments: Clinical Risk Management, Patient Safety and Infection Control, Case Management/Utilization Review and Data Abstraction and Analytics.
Mekus holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Western Governors University, Millcreek Utah and a Basic Certificate in Quality and Safety from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. She received her Associate’s in Applied Science with distinction from SUNY Erie Community College, where she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
“We are confident in Tammy’s abilities and believe that her credentials, including her Certificate in Quality and Safety, further solidify her expertise in this vital area,” Morton said.
