‘Mammogrammy’ event planned for Tuesday in Dunkirk
The Chautauqua Center (TCC) is partnering with Brooks-TLC Hospital in Dunkirk and UPMC Chautauqua Jamestown to offer its ninth annual “Mammogrammy” events as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. These events aim to provide expedited mammogram screenings for current patients at TCC, while also offering a relaxing and supportive atmosphere to the entire community.
While mammogram appointments are for current TCC Health patients, we encourage everyone to attend the free spa day activities.
The event is in Dunkirk on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Chautauqua Center, 75 E. Third St. and Jamestown on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Chautauqua Center, 107 Institute St.
Both spa day events will feature a variety of activities promoting relaxation and well-being, including massages, manicures, makeup demonstrations, fitness class demos, health and beauty information, cancer prevention resources, food and entertainment, giveaways, and a basket auction.
“We understand that various factors can prevent individuals from getting a mammogram, including inconvenience, waiting times, and fear,” said Michael Pease, The Chautauqua Center CEO. “We want to make this process as easy and comfortable as possible for our patients. At the same time, these spa-day events are a way to give back to the community as its health center.”
TCC emphasizes the importance of regular mammograms for early detection of breast cancer. The American Cancer Society provides the following guidelines for women at average risk:
— Women between 40 and 44: Have the option to start screening with a mammogram every year.
— Women 45 to 54: Should get mammograms every year.
— Women 55 and older: Can switch to a mammogram every other year or continue yearly mammograms.
Preventative screening is covered by most insurance plans. TCC partners with Cancer Services of WNY to provide financial assistance for those who qualify. We can assist patients with establishing contact with Cancer Services.
