The theme for October is Deep Listening. Sunday’s worship service is Understanding Islam, with guest speakers Ali Haider and Fatima Tauqir.
Ali and Fatima, a Pakistani Muslim family, have made Fredonia their home for the past seven years. They will engage in a conversation about their beliefs and share thought-provoking stories from the life of Prophet Muhammad to enhance the understanding of Islam.
Islam is one of the major world religions, with over a billion followers globally. It is based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, who Muslims believe received revelations from God, known as Allah, through the angel Gabriel. These revelations are compiled in the Qur\\\’an, the holy book of Islam. Muslims practice their faith through the Five Pillars of Islam, which include the declaration of faith, daily prayers, charitable giving, fasting during the month of Ramadan, and pilgrimage to Mecca. Central to Islam is the belief in one God, the importance of compassion, justice, and the responsibility to help those in need. Islam shares many values with Christianity, such as the importance of charity, prayer, and treating others with kindness. Understanding these commonalities can foster greater respect and dialogue between our communities.
