SUNY holds vets ceremony
SUNY Fredonia held its annual Veterans Remembrance Ceremony Friday afternoon.
The Dunkirk High School Junior ROTC provided the color guard. SUNY Fredonia student Ashley Zielezinski, a senior music education major from Buffalo, offered a sparkling rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
Prominent, as always, was the lone table at the room’s front, set for a single person. That table remembers, honors and mourns the Missing in Action and/or Prisoners of War.
SUNY Fredonia uses the event to announce winners of veterans scholarships. This year’s Courage and Honor Scholarship recipient is Jacob Green, a senior marketing major from Fredonia. He served three years in the U.S. Army, including a deployment to Afghanistan, and is currently a reservist.
Brodie Loftus, a junior business administration major out of Springville, won the Ronald L. and Marilyn M. Denison Scholarship. He was an aviation electronics technician in the U.S. Navy from 2007-16.
The winners of the 2024 Fredonia Veterans Scholarships are Matthew Adams, Michael Calimeri, Darrin Grzesiak, Robert Santos, Gabriel Wright and Lucas Zielinski.
