Weeks after approving an 84% tax hike, the Dunkirk Common Council has temporarily gone dark.

The council, which normally meets twice a month, has not held a meeting since Jan. 7. It called off its Jan. 21 meeting over bad weather, but has not rescheduled it.

The council’s key committee, the Finance Committee, has also canceled its latest meeting. City Fiscal Affairs Officer Ellen Luczkowiak sent an email Monday morning stating that a meeting set for Tuesday will be rescheduled to February.

She cited implementation of a new payroll system, as well as a request for proposals on new software for the city government computer system.

The Finance Committee also normally meets twice a month, and last met Jan. 14.

Starting at $2.99/week.
