Clymer, Sherman Panama Discuss Shared Transportation Supervisor

CLYMER — Clymer, Sherman and Panama are discussing sharing a transportation supervisor amongst the three districts.

The three schools have been discussing the plan, and discussions are ongoing, but Beth Olson, Clymer superintendent, said the initial assessment of components within the transportation department identify measurable efficiencies in administrative personnel, driver training and compliance costs, along with shared routing opportunities.

“Vulnerable school finance and shortage of trained drivers are driving forces encouraging school officials to explore any cost saving options that do not have a negative impact on student programs,” Olson said. “Officials from the CSP district will continue to actively discuss and work toward developing an implementation plan.”

At the February Clymer Central School board meeting, the board took a first look at the upcoming 2025-26 budget, which at the moment calculates a potential increase of 3.164%. Superintendent Beth Olson said the state aid proposal from Gov. Kathy Hochul shows a 2% increase in foundation aid for the district.

“These developments result in a maximum revenue increase of $258,560 for the 2025-26 year,” Olson said. “Initial expenditure projections indicate a total increase of 2.6% for the 2025-26 year due primarily to salary, special education placements, and insurance increases.”

One last administrative item of discussion for the board was the new regulation requiring a student member to be a part of all schools’ boards of education. The regulation is set to take place on July 1, and requires all school boards to adopt a policy and include a student as an ex-officio board member.

“The intent of this new regulation is to give student voice and BOE’s to hear student perspectives when evaluating and approving district policy,” Olson said. “Student reps will not participate in monthly BOE voting or be included in executive sessions.”

Additionally, Olson said Clymer is currently working on a process that can be used to identify students that will be committed to fulfill this role.
