Jackson Day To Feature U.S. Attorney

Troy Rivetti

WARREN, PA — The U.S. Attorney whose office was involved in resolving the dispute between Old Order Amish in Sugar Grove and the township will be the 2025 Jackson Day speaker in Warren.

The 2025 Jackson Day in Warren at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Warren County Courthouse will feature a keynote address by Troy Rivetti, acting U.S. attorney, on the role of the federal prosecutor.

Currently, Rivetti serves as the United States Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, where he oversees 125 prosecutors, civil litigators, and professional staff in three offices, serving more than 3 million citizens. He was involved in the recent lawsuit and consent order that resolved a longstanding dispute between Old Order Amish in Sugar Grove and Sugar Grove officials over the Old Order Amish’s refusal to hook up to the township’s municipal sewer system or to pay fees associated with the sewer system to the township.

“No one should have to choose between keeping their home or practicing their faith,” Rivetti said in a statement last week. “This office will continue to defend religious communities against zoning ordinances that penalize them for adhering to their religious beliefs.”

Rivetti’s career in the Department of Justice has spanned more than 25 years. Rivetti joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 1997 and throughout his career as a federal prosecutor, his primary area of concentration has involved the investigation and prosecution of violent crime, including large-scale drug trafficking organizations and firearms offenses. Prior to his current role, Rivetti held a series of leadership positions in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including serving as the first assistant U.S. Attorney from June 2023 to January 2025, and from November 2021 to February 2023. He also served as the chief of the Criminal Division from 2019 to 2021.

Jackson Day observes the birthday of Robert Jackson in nearby Spring Creek, Pa., on February 13, 1892. His family later moved to Frewsburg, where he grew up and attended high school.
