Announcement of grants include two sewer projects
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced funding for two sewer projects in Chautauqua County Thursday, both of which were anticipated.
Hochul announced the Environmental Facilities Corporation approved $340 million in financial assistance for water infrastructure improvement projects across the state.
There were 21 projects listed in the announcement. Local projects include
— $809,750 interest-free financing and two state grants totaling $798,500 for the design and construction of collection system improvements in the Portland Pomfret Dunkirk Sewer District. One of the state grants is funded by the Clean Water, Clean Air and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022.
— $2.6 million in interest-free financing and $2.8 million in federal and state grants to the town of Chautauqua for the design and construction of the Sewer District No. 1 sewer extension to the Shorelands area.
Legislature Chairman Pierre Chagnon said the announcement for the Portland Pomfret Dunkirk Sewer District was known internally and they already have plans in place. “The sewer district has already made their request to the state comptroller to approve the project and they just got their approval of that this past week,” he said.
Chagnon said the Portland Pomfret Dunkirk Sewer District Board has a contractor lined up and hope sign the contract next week. Should that happen, he expects the work to begin as soon as possible.
For the Chautauqua town sewer district work to the Shorelands area, Town Supervisor Don Emhardt said work is actually already under way. “We were notified ahead of time,” he said.
