JAMESTOWN – Chautauqua Opportunities Inc. has opened the Hope Haven Women’s Center, an 18-bed homeless shelter dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for single, adult women experiencing homelessness.

Located at 303 Lafayette St., Jamestown, Hope Haven will offer resources and services to help women regain their independence and stability.

Hope Haven Women’s Center is designed to meet the unique needs of women facing homelessness, offering a variety of services, including emergency shelter, case management, housing assistance, and access to community resources.

“We are thrilled to finally open the women’s shelter, start providing services and ultimately filling this critical need in our community,” said Diane Hewitt-Johnson, chief executive officer of Chautauqua Opportunities Inc. “The number of women experiencing homelessness in our community over the past several years has significantly increased. COI responded through this much-needed project.”

A grand opening ceremony will be held in the spring. The renovation at 303 Lafayette Street started in March and completed in December 2024. The facility includes 12 independent apartments, a large common room, laundry facilities, and office space for supportive services.

Placements at the Hope Haven Center must be arranged through the Department of Social Services. Women experiencing homelessness are encouraged to contact the local DSS for assistance with emergency shelter.

Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. has been a cornerstone of community support in the region for 60 years. As part of its ongoing mission to alleviate poverty and improve lives, COI recognizes that homelessness is a complex issue requiring a comprehensive approach. Hope Haven is one of the organization’s many efforts to ensure that those in need are provided with the resources, care, and compassion they deserve.
