Fredonia budget hearings set for Wednesday
Fredonia’s trustees scheduled public hearings for Wednesday on the 2025-26 village budget.
Trustees are currently considering changes to Mayor Michael Ferguson’s proposed budget, which contains an approximately 55% tax increase. They’ve already met with Police Chief David Price, Fire Chief Joshua Myers, Department of Public Works Director Scott Marsh, water plant chief Luis Fred, and wastewater plant chief David Felt.
The trustees will meet with remaining department heads Monday, and intend to finalize the budget at the same meeting.
The Board of Trustees passed a resolution Thursday allowing it to override the state-mandated tax cap. That’s the subject of the first hearing on Wednesday, set for 6 p.m. at Village Hall. A hearing on the overall budget will follow at 6:30 p.m.
Ferguson is recovering from surgery and has not been a part of the budget meetings so far. However, he told the OBSERVER he will attend and conduct Monday’s meeting.
