Literacy Suite Workshop held at SUNY

The inaugural Literacy Suite Workshop was held last month.
The State University of New York at Fredonia, in collaboration with Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES (E2CCB), presented the inaugural Literacy Suite Workshop last month. This event was designed to enhance professional development for both in-service educators across the region and pre-service teachers enrolled in SUNY Fredonia’s teacher certification programs.
The workshop focused on advancing instructional practices, fostering innovation in teaching methodologies, and strengthening literacy education. Participants engaged in three specialized sessions: AI Literacy, The Science of Reading, and Financial Literacy. Each session provided educators with practical, research-based strategies for implementation in K-12 classrooms.
The workshop featured distinguished experts in their respective fields:
— Dr. Carmen Macharaschwili, Senior Director of Learning and Development at AI for Education, will lead the session on AI Literacy, exploring the role of artificial intelligence in modern education.
— Dr. David Kilpatrick, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at SUNY Cortland and a New York State-certified school psychologist, will present on The Science of Reading, offering evidence-based strategies for literacy instruction.
— Dr. Kaustav Misra, Dean and Professor of Economics at SUNY Fredonia’s School of Business, will lead the Financial Literacy session, equipping educators with tools to teach essential financial concepts to students.
By the conclusion of the workshop, attendees acquired actionable insights and strategies to integrate AI-driven tools, enhance literacy development, and strengthen financial education in their classrooms. The event attracted approximately 250 K-12 educators, along with over 50 SUNY Fredonia faculty members and students.
