Silver Creek High School presents the student musical “Mamma Mia,” from April 4 to 6.

This beloved and hilarious story is a jukebox musical featuring ABBA’s hit songs to tell this sunny and funny tale that unfolds on a Greek island paradise. Sophie Sheridan, a 20-year-old girl who is about to get married to her fiancé, Sky, and desperately wants her father to give her away at her wedding. The only problem? She doesn’t know who her father is, and according to her mother’s diary she has three possible dads. Sophie invites them all to her wedding in hopes of finding out who her father is, all unbeknownst to Donna. Donna reminisces with her best friends, Rosie and Tanya, about their past as “Donna and the Dynamos,” but also about her lost love twenty years before.

The story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, creating an unforgettable show. Non-stop laughs and explosive dance numbers combine to make this musical one that will surely have you up dancing in the aisles (we will actually encourage this at the end).

“I think the audience is going to love the dances in this musical,” said Marissa Grisanti, who plays Donna. Her first musical was in fourth grade and now she is a senior. “We have spent a lot of time perfecting the dances and it plays a big part in the show!”

The performance features 53 Silver Creek students in grade 7-12 as cast, pit band, and stage crew. Several of the students said the family component of the show is also reflected in the cast.

“When people see us on stage they will be able to see how connected we are. We aren’t afraid to be on stage with each other. It’s like one big family,” said Irelynd Henry, a senior, who plays Sophie.

Some of the cast’s favorite numbers are “Does Your Mother Know,” “Honey, Honey,” and “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme.”

The community is invited to enjoy Silver Creek High’s student musical production of “Mamma Mia” on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the auditorium. The show’s two acts will be split by a 15-minute intermission featuring a basket raffle, bake sale and “kiss the cast” fundraiser to support the district’s Performing Arts Department and the Performing Arts Boosters. Tickets can be purchased at silvercreekhs.seatyourself.biz. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for students/senior citizens.

This show is rated PG-13 due to language and innuendo, but the director and cast have made modifications to make it even more family friendly.
