Name released in fatal ambulance accident
An accident involving an ambulance has resulted in the loss of a life.
According to a report from New York State Police, the ambulance was headed to a nursing home from Erie, Pa. The patient, Arthur R. McArthur, 77 of Dunkirk, sustained fatal injuries. The 49-year-old driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident occurred on Route 5 west of Willow Road in the town of Dunkirk around 5:30 p.m. West Dunkirk and Fredonia fire departments also responded.
At 8 p.m., Truck traffic on Route 5 westbound was still being redirected at Route 60 in the city of Dunkirk to avoid the accident reconstruction investigation conducted by New York State Police.
