Truck goes through pole, flips over

A Dunkirk man was taken to the hospital following an automobile accident Monday on in the town of Dunkirk.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Michael G. Korytko, 33, of Gratiot Center, was traveling east on Route 5 near Willow Road around 11 a.m. when his vehicle veered off the side of the road, hit a curb and a National Grid utility pole, causing the pole to sheer off.

Korytko’s vehicle, a pickup truck, overturned and then traveled through an open field, where it struck a parked vehicle in the field.

There was no one in the parked vehicle. Korytko was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital for unspecified injuries.

He was issued a traffic ticket for crossing hazard markings and will appear in court at a later date.

The crash temporarily shut down Route 5. Along with the Sheriff’s Office, agencies responded included the Dunkirk City Fire Department and EMS, the West Town Dunkirk Fire Department, Fredonia Fire Department and State Police.
