Students, staff cultivate community of assistance in Silver Creek
One of a kind
Special to the OBSERVER
SILVER CREEK – There are many ways to be of service to one’s community: Planting flowers and vegetables in local neighborhoods and on the grounds of the Silver Creek Central School District, putting together care packages for veterans and patients, mentoring, creating inspirational posters, and cleaning up the shores of Lake Erie.
These are just a few ways students and staff of Silver Creek Elementary are spreading kindness throughout their schools and beyond. And now, they are hoping to engage local residents in their altruistic endeavors.
The Acts of Kindness project is the result of collaborative brainstorming by the Student Leadership Team, which comprises who students want to inspire others.
Acts of Kindness schedule:
¯ Thursday: Veterans’ Care Packages.
¯ Saturday: Plant flowers at SCCS; plant flowers in the community; plant vegetables.
May 14: Care packages for servicemen and servicewomen.
May 16: Fire Furry Friends (collect stuffed animals for fire victims).
May 18: Beach cleanup.
May 20: Care packages for healing patients.
May 21: Black Knight Mentor Program.
May 25: St. Columban’s visit.
May 30: Put together items for sensory bins.
June 1: Acts of Kindness Bingo and making inspirational posters.
“These are options and not limitations,” said Elementary School Principal Merrie Maxon. “The students want to inspire others to choose where and choose when BKP Kindness is spread.”
