Man airlifted in Pomfret crash
A passenger in an SUV that went off the road, overturned and struck two parked vehicles in the town of Pomfret was airlifted to an Erie, Pa., hospital late Monday.
According to Capt. Eric Balon of the New York State Police, 47-year-old William Edwards of Fredonia was taken by helicopter to UPMC Hamot for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Around 9:50 p.m. first responders were summoned to Chautauqua Road, between Maytum Road and Concord Drive, in the town of Pomfret for a reported crash involving multiple vehicles. An investigation found that 20-year-old Justin Edwards of Fredonia was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed in a Chevrolet Avalanche when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. According to Balon, after leaving the road the vehicle then struck a road sign, a tree, overturned before striking two parked vehicles.
The SUV sustained significant damage in the crash.
Justin Edwards, who suffered only a minor cut, was issued tickets for unsafe speed, moving from lane unsafely and failure to maintain designated lane.
Alstar EMS and members of the Fredonia Fire Department also responded to the crash late Monday.
