Cassadaga Wind Project nearing completion
The Cassadaga Wind Project is expected to be completed some time in the first quarter of 2021, with everything proceeding according to schedule and “progressing well,” according to RWE Renewables communication manager Matt Tulis.
“All the foundations have now been poured and the final two turbines were delivered last week,” Tulis said.
The project consisted of 37 turbines total, signaling that the project is in fact near its close. And despite restrictions from COVID-19 and deterrents from the weather, the project hasn’t faced huge setbacks.
“We’ve had some delays due to weather, which isn’t unusual for a wind project or for the location of Cassadaga in New York state,” Tulis said. “We’ve been extremely careful during the pandemic and our COVID-19 protocol is reinforced daily onsite.”
The 125.5 mw farm that will be located in parts of Charlotte, Stockton, and Cherry Creek and encompass 40,000 acres of land had hit some delays early in the project, but they are expected to finish on goal.
“We’ve had some delays on delivery of turbine components which impacted the original construction schedule,” Tulis said.
“But things are progressing well on the project and we expect to reach commercial operation in the first half of 2021.”
Despite some initial protests and community crackback, Tulis said RWE has received a lot of support for the project lately, and they are happy to be contributing to Chautauqua County.
“Local support for the project remains strong,” Tulis said.
“And we look forward to continuing to contribute to the local community and economy as Cassadaga Wind reaches commercial operations later this year.”
