FORESTVILLE — The Forestville Central School District is once again looking to expand on their Farm to School Grant that has brought them a lot of success in the last several months. With it, they have been able to replace a lot of old cafeteria equipment, among other things, and are now looking for an additional $100,000 to purchase a food truck or food trailer.

The food truck would provide Forestville with some creative ways to both feed their own students, as well as the families within the district.

“We would use this food truck to disseminate free food to our families over the summer,” said Forestville Superintendent Renee Garrett. “And possibly use it as another site for our high school cafeteria, so students could actually go outside and eat at the food truck.”

Garrett said that another use of the food truck would be to generate some revenue for the school cafeteria, as it could be used to cater events such as the Forestville Fall Festival. If they are approved for the grant, they would likely know around April or May.

Garrett said within the past week, there will be a committee of some staff members, board members, and the Imagine Forestville group that will go see the food truck factory in Alden while also going to Frontier High School and some Buffalo city schools to see how they’re using their food truck.

“Some of them are using them differently,” said Garrett. “So, it will be interesting to see how they’re using their food trucks and see how successful they’ve been.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
