Chautauqua County officials are continuing efforts to get the historic White Inn in Fredonia sold.

On Tuesday, there was a White Inn Community Stakeholders’ Roundtable Discussion a the Fredonia Technology Incubator. The meeting was closed to the press, but was attended by County Executive PJ Wendel, and Mark Geise, deputy county executive for economic development and chief executive officer for the county Industrial Development Agency.

According to Geise, the meeting was held with several potential developers for the White Inn who are considering submitting proposals in response to the Request For Proposal set by the realtor.

“The proposals are due by the end of January, and we commenced a team of key community stakeholders to convey to the developers what each of us we can bring to the table in terms of incentives, community support, marketing, etc.,” Geise said in an email.

In November, the county announced that Paula Blanchard Hannah Commercial Real Estate was marketing the property. She was successful in helping the county find a buyer for the former Welch building in Westfield.

“We are hopeful that we receive some good proposals for responsible redevelopment of the White Inn, and are pulling out all of the stops to demonstrate our commitment to making the project a success,” said Geise.

According to a flier by Hannah Commercial Real Estate, the White Inn, which is located at 52 E. Main St., has 24 fully furnished guest rooms, a large dining/banquet room, lounge, and expansive kitchen with walk-in cooler. The 22,000 square foot building has extensive architectural details, including tin ceilings, wainscoting, fireplaces and cornices. The building is eligible for historic tax credits and there are various county, state and federal incentives available for a qualified buyer.

The White Inn, which was first constructed around 1919, shut down in late 2017 and has been closed ever since. There was a potential buyer but Geise said in June 2020 that the sale fell through due to the pandemic.
