By ANTHONY DOLCE adolce@observertoday.com For the sixth time, Armand Petri’s Student Record Label class at the State University of New York at Fredonia will be holding its Lend a Paw for Autism dog walk on Sunday from noon-5 p.m. The walk begins at the clock tower on Symphony Road and ends in Dods Grove. Mads Fox, a music industry major taking Petri’s class, said that all the money will go to the Institute of Autism Research in Buffalo. “We just want to raise money for the Institute,” said Fox. “That’s our main goal. We don’t care about our own profits.” Fox said that the students in the class are charged with marketing the event, which will also feature student artists who are part of the student record label. Fox is working this event for the first year, and is excited to get both experience and to raise money for a good cause. “Considering I’m a music industry major with no experience, it’s eye opening to see how everything works,” said Fox. “And the organization is great, a lot of the time, people like to donate money to organizations that aren’t.” As part of organizing the event, Fox said the students have had to organize the performances, food, and other parts, and Fox has gone the extra mile by even making sure there are extra dogs on hand for people to walk if they’d like. “I contacted WNY Heroes, who are bringing service dogs for people who don’t have dogs to walk,” said Fox. “That felt like a great opportunity.” Registration for dogs costs $10, all of which goes toward the charity as a donation, and there are even options available for people looking to participate. For those who wish to participate but can’t make the day, there is an online dog walk event that costs $5, requiring only submitting a picture of the dog. And if people have other pets, they are not excluded either. “Anybody is welcome and any pet is welcome,” said Fox. “We’ll welcome all kinds of dogs and we’ll take anything you have. If you want to put a cat or lizard on a leash, go for it.
