CASSADAGA — Recent Village Board meetings have often been centered around the possibility for more grant funding for various projects.
Village Trustee Cathy Cruver has been in contact with multiple sources on three grants related to electric vehicle charging stations and downtown revitalization. One application Cruver is moving forward with on behalf of the town is related to downtown revitalization. Cruver clarified the grant — up to $30,000 — does not apply to the revitalization work itself, rather to cover the cost of having the desired areas assessed and to apply for a larger grant for the work itself.
The village recently purchased a sign for the ballpark entrance, a waterproof sign for the beach, and solar flood lights for Ames Common with funds received from the Bed Tax Grant.
The village also secured a grant to cover the cost of the concerts in the village throughout the year.
At a past meeting, the village spoke about the shortage of lifeguards anticipated this summer. However, after speaking with Fredonia High School swim coach Joanne Lotter, Trustee Cruver believes the village will be able to find a number of quality candidates to serve as lifeguards in the village this summer.
“She said there’s definitely some good candidates,” Cruver said.
As for the Bathhouse at the Beach project, the village is not as confident. So far, only one interested party has picked up design plans for the renovation project, but the level of interest for that party to submit a bid is still uncertain. The Bid Opening set for March 3. The village hopes to complete the project by the opening of the beach this summer.
“I know contractors are very busy. They can’t get behind a lot of projects,” said Village Clerk/Treasurer Roxanne Astry. “Hopefully we will get another, it would be nice to have at least two bids.”
